병무청이 태도를 바꾼 것은 '연예인의 병역'에 대한 부정적 사회 인식이 원인이라는 지적이다. 최근 래퍼 라비가 '병역 면탈' 혐의로 지난달 11일 징역 2년을 선고받았다. 병역 브로커 구 씨, 소속사 대표 김 씨와 공모해 허위 뇌전증 진단서를 제출, 병역 면탈을 시도했다는 혐의다.
이에 병무청이 입대 예정인 만 28세 남자 연예인의 입영 규정을 유연성 없이 잡았다는 것. 병무청의 의지를 보여줄 첫 번째 인물이 카이가 됐다는 비판도 나왔다.
카이의 입대 소식에도 엑소의 컴백은 문제없이 진행된다. 5년 만의 완전체 활동에 설렘을 드러낸 팬들은 다소 아쉬울 뿐이다.
